Alpine by Ludwig Gschossmann
1894-1988.
Original vintage oil on board signed by artist in the lower left.
Sources have recorded the artist's birth in either Strasbourg or Munich. He spent his formative years in Wachau, Germany, and later studied at a number of art schools in Hamburg, Lübeck, and Augsberg.
While attending the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, he developed his refined painting technique. His style was influenced by artist Otto Pippel, one of Germany’s most noted impressionist artists, after whose work Gschossmann began implementing a looser brushstroke technique in his oil paintings and embraced "en plein air" (or out of doors) painting.
He is best known for his paintings of Tegernsee lake scenes, horse and carriage subjects, as well as his opera-ballroom compositions. (Gschossmann studied theater set design, as well as painting, while attending art school.)
The artist lived the majority of his life in Tegernsee, a rural lake shore village nestled in the Bavaria Alps.Overall Dimensions:
